Based on Ogata Kenzan’s original bowl, dynamic wisteria vines unfold across a softly green ground, their movement giving the composition a sense of rhythm and depth.
Leaves and trailing vines are rendered in rust-colored enamel, while clusters of wisteria blossoms emerge in blue and white, creating a vivid interplay of color and line.
The layered palette and flowing composition bring a quiet vitality to the bowl, allowing the elegance of Kenzan’s wisteria motif to resonate in a contemporary form.
About Utsushi
Utsushi is a long-standing practice in Japanese ceramics in which artists respectfully learn from and reinterpret the works of great masters.
Rather than simple reproduction, it is a creative dialogue between past and present, allowing tradition to be carried forward through a contemporary hand.

NIEI is a Kiyomizu ware brand founded in 2021 by Niei, a master overglaze painter of Kiyomizu ware and a certified traditional craftsperson.
Currently, NIEI brings together four overglaze painters: its founder Niei, along with Sosha, Kohaku, and Kyoka. Each artist works with a free and individual sensibility, making the discovery of richly distinctive pieces one of the brand’s great pleasures.
