Kyo-kawara (Roofing tiles)
Since the establishment of the capital in the Heian period, Kyoto has prospered as a major producer of roof tiles. After World War II, the company mainly produces special hand-made roof tiles. There are more than 700 types of Kyoto tiles, and the main tiles are ridge tiles, eaves tiles, verge tiles, etc., rather than the base tiles that cover the entire roof. Kyoto tiles are characterized by their durability and the beautiful luster of oxidized silver, which is unique to handmade tiles.
