- CREATORS INFO
A bold composition of blue-and-white porcelain and iron painting forms the foundation of the design, upon which red, yellow, and white chrysanthemums bloom in full splendor.
The dynamic contrast between structure and color gives the bowl a powerful presence, while preserving a sense of balance and refinement characteristic of Ogata Kenzan’s work.
Through this utsushi, the vitality of Kenzan’s chrysanthemum motif is reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility, allowing tradition to resonate vividly in the hand of the modern viewer.
About Utsushi
Utsushi is a long-standing practice in Japanese ceramics in which artists respectfully learn from and reinterpret the works of great masters.
Rather than simple reproduction, it is a creative dialogue between past and present, allowing tradition to be carried forward through a contemporary hand.

NIEI is a Kiyomizu ware brand founded in 2021 by Niei, a master overglaze painter of Kiyomizu ware and a certified traditional craftsperson.
Currently, NIEI brings together four overglaze painters: its founder Niei, along with Sosha, Kohaku, and Kyoka. Each artist works with a free and individual sensibility, making the discovery of richly distinctive pieces one of the brand’s great pleasures.
