函谷鉾は、四条通室町東入(烏丸西入)函谷鉾町の鉾で応仁の乱（1467～1477）以前に起源を持ち、くじ取らず(五番)の鉾として、長刀鉾に次いで鉾二番に巡行し、鉾櫓、屋根の規模で最大級の鉾の一つです。
