"Hyakunin Isshu", a collection of one hundred classical waka poems, is said to have been selected by Fujiwara no Teika at his mountain villa on Mt. Ogura in Kyoto.
Revisiting these poems today, we find within the 5–7–5–7–7 syllabic structure scenes that take our breath away and emotions that quietly seep into the heart—feelings that remain deeply relatable even in modern times.
This set is ideal as an introduction to classical Japanese poetry.
It can be enjoyed as a family game during the New Year holidays, and when not in use, it may also be displayed as a decorative object. Displaying the cards in a well-ventilated area can also help prevent insect damage.
