Bring the Spirit of Kyoto’s Festivals to Tea Time
A wooden tea cup coaster inspired by the shape of a traditional Japanese lantern.
The center features a wheel motif reminiscent of the floats and traditional carriages seen at Kyoto festivals. The cutout is not only a decorative accent—it also allows air to flow beneath the cup, helping prevent it from sticking to the coaster when lifted.
The underside is crafted using a traditional Kyo Sashimono (Kyoto joinery) technique known as otoshikomi, in which a separate wooden piece is carefully fitted by sliding it into precisely cut grooves.
Made from Katsura wood, known for its warm brown tones, the coaster has a soft, natural appearance and a smooth, pleasant texture.
Designed to pair beautifully with Japanese teacups, it brings a subtle touch of Kyoto craftsmanship to everyday tea time and is equally suited for serving guests.
Choose from two designs: Sei (Stillness), depicting a wheel at rest, and Do (Motion), expressing the movement of a spinning wheel.
