“Hishimochi” is a traditional diamond-shaped Japanese sweet associated with Hinamatsuri, the Doll Festival celebrated in early March.

Its colors evoke the arrival of early spring: peach blossoms beginning to bloom while snow still lingers, and fresh green shoots emerging beneath the snow.

In this design, the repeating diamond shapes of Hishimochi come together to create a playful geometric pattern.

Each piece is made entirely by hand through the traditional woodblock printing process: drawing the design, carving the woodblock, and printing it by hand with a baren. This design is printed in two colors, adding depth and character to the repeating pattern.

The subtle variations in color and texture give each book jacket the distinctive warmth of a handmade print.

The book jacket is made from smooth-surfaced washi paper selected for its vivid color reproduction and durability, making it well suited to woodblock printing.

As the pigments are carefully worked into the washi during printing, the color is resistant to rubbing. The paper also has a comfortable thickness and feels pleasant in the hand.
