Not only the craftsmanship itself, but every single material used has been meticulously selected—so carefully that many are now difficult to obtain.
This exceptional work can truly be described as the finest edition of Ogura Hyakunin Isshu.
Front Facing Paper
Pure Mitsumata Handmade Torinoko Washi
The front paper is made from freshly hand-pulled washi produced in Echizen Ōtaki (Ōtaki, Imadate Town), a region renowned for its tradition of handmade paper.
Smooth to the touch yet remarkably strong, this paper is also resistant to insects that commonly affect washi, making it highly valued for the preservation of books and documents intended to endure over time.

TAMURA SHOGUNDO
We were founded in 1921 as a karuta craftsman's workshop. With the desire to "convey the elegant spirit of the ancients to the present day," we have continued to make karuta, including Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, to this day.
