Collection: Karuta
It is said that karuta cards such as Hyakunin Isshu and Hana Karuta began to be made during the Edo period. Since then, most of them have been produced in Kyoto and shipped nationwide.
The most skilled part of making karuta is the backing process, in which glue is applied to each card with a brush and the edges are turned over to create the border.
