Bring the Spirit of Kyoto’s Festivals to Your Table
A wooden coaster inspired by the shape of a traditional Japanese lantern.
The center features a wheel motif reminiscent of the floats and traditional carriages seen at Kyoto festivals. The cutout is not only a decorative accent—it also helps prevent the bottom of a mug or glass from sticking to the coaster when lifted.
The underside is crafted using a traditional Kyo Sashimono (Kyoto joinery) technique known as otoshikomi, in which a separate wooden piece is carefully fitted by sliding it into precisely cut grooves.
Made from sen wood (Japanese castor aralia), the coaster showcases the wood’s beautiful natural grain and offers a warm, smooth texture.
Slightly larger than a typical Japanese tea saucer, it is suitable for a variety of drinkware, from teacups to mugs and glasses.
Choose from two designs: Sei (Still), depicting a wheel at rest, and Do (Motion), expressing the movement of a spinning wheel.
