Collection: Kyo-hanga (Kyoto woodblock prints)
The oldest printed woodblock print in Japan is a sutra from Horyuji Temple. However, until the early 17th century, it was generally only used for publications related to Buddhism.
In Kyoto, since the Edo period, it has developed around illustrated stories and ukiyo-e prints, and since the Meiji period, dyed pattern collections that do not allow deviations in color or design have developed.
