Shun Hatada (Shoen Kumihimo)
Born in Kyoto in 1983. After graduating from university, he came into contact with manufacturing through various activities, and joined Shoen Kumihimo Co., Ltd. in 2011. Focusing mainly on the production of braided cords using a cord-making machine, learn the techniques for producing twisted tufts and processing products. While belonging to the sales department since 2015, he continues to propose the role of braids in modern times by responding to various needs, such as new product planning and application proposals based on manufacturing knowledge.

Showen Kumihimo

Shoen Kumihimo has its main workshop in Uji City, known as the setting for The Tale of Genji, and deals in the traditional braided cord craft known as obi-jime. The company began over 70 years ago as a workshop that produced kimono accessories such as obi-jime and hair ornaments. Although machines were introduced around 1958, the traditional hand-braiding method continues, and its strength lies in its continued production using both hand-braiding and machines.

We are challenging ourselves to create a wide range of products, from everyday items to accessories, and we offer braided cords that meet a variety of needs.
