📢The 2nd Kyoto Craft and Design Competition “TRADITION for TOMORROW” Exhibition
Dates: February 7 – March 22, 2026
The Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design (Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City) will host the 2nd Kyoto Craft and Design Competition “TRADITION for TOMORROW” Exhibition from Saturday, February 7 to Sunday, March 22, 2026.
This exhibition presents selected works from a competition aimed at carrying forward the craftsmanship nurtured by Kyoto’s traditional industries into the future.
The competition attracted a wide range of applicants, from teenagers to people in their seventies. Entries were submitted from across Japan, from Miyagi in the north to Okinawa in the south, and also included several applications from overseas.
From a total of 138 submissions, approximately 70 works that passed the document screening will be exhibited.
This year’s theme is “Shu–Ha–So: Preservation, Evolution, and Creation in Traditional Crafts.”
While cherishing techniques and values passed down through generations, the exhibited works reexamine existing frameworks and boldly create new values and expressions.
During the exhibition, visitors are invited to participate in the selection of the Audience Award, which is decided by public vote. By casting a vote for your favorite work, you can support the next generation of artisans who will carry traditional crafts into the future.
