A Kyoto spinning top in the shape of a float used in the Gion Festival in Kyoto.

Beautiful Kyo tops are made by hand, one by one, by winding cotton cords (bundles of dyed cotton threads).

The triangle with a circle in it at the top of this float symbolizes the birth of a hen (“niwatori” in Japanese) from an egg. Philosophically, it has been said that a triangle and inscribed circle represent the primordial chaos from which the universe, as we know it, emerged in the age of the gods.

This is the small size.

Since it is a "kyo-koma", the top part can be removed and turned.
