Two Little Fish Swimming in Water – A Playful Small Plate

This charming white plate features two little fish that appear to be swimming through water.

Its simple, understated design is brought to life by these playful details.

Although the fish are slightly raised from the surface, the plates can be neatly stacked for convenient storage. When stacked, the little fish peek out between the plates, adding another delightful touch.

Measuring approximately 14.5 cm in diameter, this versatile plate is perfect for serving cakes, traditional Japanese sweets, or small dishes, and can also be used as an individual serving plate.

The name "Utsuwa haku" comes from the Japanese word haku, referring to the idea of empty space or ma.

The artist values the space and playful relationship between food and tableware, creating pieces that subtly reveal different expressions depending on the viewing angle. This thoughtful approach allows the beauty of the food to stand out while bringing a sense of discovery and enjoyment to everyday dining.
