The Yakuno Wood & Lacquer Museum develops and offers products that showcase the beauty of Tamba urushi, a traditional lacquer native to northern Kyoto. Through exhibitions, workshops, and collaborations with local artisans, the museum works to preserve and share the region's rich lacquer heritage.

With a history spanning more than 1,300 years, Tamba urushi is one of Japan's oldest lacquer traditions, with records showing that lacquer produced in the Tamba region was presented to the Imperial Court during the Nara period.
