Collection: Kyo-sashimono (Kyoto woodwork)
It originated in the court culture of the Heian period, and specialized joiners appeared from the Muromachi period onwards, when woodware became popular among the upper classes. Furthermore, the tea ceremony culture that began with Sen no Rikyu had a great influence on Kyoto joinery.
Broadly divided, there are furniture cabinetry and tea ceremony cabinetry, and both can be said to be at the pinnacle of high-quality Japanese furniture and tea utensils.
