“Coffees and Cups” began in 2022 with the idea of bringing traditional crafts and handmade objects closer to everyday life through the simple pleasures of coffee and teatime.

For its sixth edition, the event returns with a special spin-off theme: “Plates Take Center Stage!”

While previous editions have focused mainly on coffee cups, this time we’re turning our attention to plates—the perfect companions for cakes, baked treats, bread, and other favorites to enjoy with coffee.

A diverse selection of works by makers based mainly in Kyoto will come together for the event. We hope you’ll find a favorite piece to make your everyday coffee time a little more special.

A selection of works from the event will also be available through the MOCAD ONLINE SHOP during the exhibition period.

1. This Year’s Theme: “Plates Take Center Stage!”

This edition shines a spotlight on plates you’ll want to reach for when serving cakes, baked treats, bread, and more. Explore a variety of materials, techniques, shapes, and styles, and find that special plate to call your own.

2. Handmade Works by a Diverse Group of Makers

Artists and studios based mainly in Kyoto will present their work, each bringing their own distinctive approach to materials, techniques, and design.

At the venue, you can see the pieces up close, hold them in your hands, and discover the details and character of each one.

3. Freshly Brewed Coffee and Kyoto Sweets

Enjoy hand-dripped coffee from Globe Mountain Coffee, along with baked treats from Kyoto Murakami Kaishindo, one of Kyoto’s long-established confectioners.

Take your time browsing the pottery while enjoying the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
