The gourd is a symbol of prosperity and fertility because of its large number of seeds, and its wide-spreading shape is considered auspicious.
It is a popular pattern that has been said since ancient times to give good health and longevity and a happy family.
The designs are simple yet memorable at first glance, and are hand-drawn one by one.
The ribs are made of bamboo harvested from the Adogawa River in Shiga Prefecture, and the character for “Kyo” is carved open.
