It is often depicted on ceramics and folding screens from the late Edo period to the Meiji period, and the image of children playing happily holding fruits and jewels is a favorite symbol of affluence.
The jewel is said to have come from the body of the mythical fish Makara of India, which swallows all seawater and fish, and from the brain of the dragon god. Shaped like a flame with a sharp top of a sphere. It is said that you can get whatever you want.
A Karako who wears a brightly colored folk costume and holds a jewel. It looks plump and fun.
