古く中国では蝙蝠の「蝠」が福の発音と同じことから福寿を象徴する吉祥文様とされ、日本でもこの影響を受けて福を呼ぶ縁起のよい柄として用いられました。
人としての五つの幸福。寿命の長いこと、財力の豊かなこと、無病息災であること、徳を好むこと、天命を全うすること。
縁起の良い柄ですので贈り物にも適しています。
