天明5年（1785年）に京都の康照卿（やすてるきょう）という人が、妻の古着のきれ端を使ってくす玉のかんざしを作ったのがつまみ細工のはじまりだといわれています。
大正7年の創業以来、日本髪の結い上げに使う元結や鬢付け油（びんつけあぶら）、結い上がった髪を飾るかんざしをはじめ、現在では女性をより美しく引き立てる様々な和装装飾品なども取り扱う「京都うのはら」のお品です。
