📢Exhibition Information | Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design

"KYOTO CRAFTS and DESIGN COMPETITION 2024-2025 Exhibition" starts on Thursday, February 13th at the Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design!

With the aim of connecting traditional culture to the future, the Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design established a "Student Division" for art university and vocational school students from all over the country, and a "General Division" for artists, artisans, and practitioners of traditional crafts with ties to Kyoto Prefecture, and called for new works to explore new possibilities in crafts under the theme of "Immutability and changeability " and "learning from the past"

This year, the first time the event was held, 160 applications were received from all over the country, from the Kanto region to Kyushu and Okinawa, and the applicants ranged in age from 18 to 78 years old.

The exhibition will display approximately 80 winning works that were selected by a judging committee from the entries in the "Student" and "General" categories.

The purpose of this competition is to recognize new works and products that connect traditional Japanese craft materials and techniques to the future and to support such activities. At the exhibition, you can see a variety of works that are born from originality and ingenuity that connect traditional crafts to the future, and works born from innovative ideas.
