Lanterns in a geisha district drawn by woodblock print artist Kenji Takenaka
Kyoto has five geisha districts: Kamishichiken, Gion Higashi, Gion Kobu, Miyagawacho, and Pontocho. As you walk along, you will notice the lanterns that represent each geisha district. The round and stick motifs on some lanterns are dumplings. Even in small places, you can feel the essence of Kyoto.
